"Winsome, wacky, and wonderful"
ACE Brass (Auckland Chamber Ensemble Brass) formed in 2011 brings world class chamber music for brass trio into the concert halls and homes of New Zealand. With a wealth of experience in solo, orchestral and chamber music, these talented musicians embrace this fascinating and versatile repertoire.
All three musicians are experienced internationally, having studied and worked overseas for a number of years before settling in Auckland. Huw Dann and Emma Richards now hold positions with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and John Gluyas is a freelance player, teacher and music director/conductor of the Auckland City Brass Band.
The programmes are an evocative exploration of what it means to perform brass repertoire in the 21st century. The medieval “Congaudeant Catholoci” pairs up brilliantly with John Cage’s chance piece “Music for…”. Trios by Poulenc and Ewazen, established masterpieces, are set alongside the most significant modern classics.
