The TSB Showplace, where the Theatre Royal is located in New Plymouth, Taranaki, is the region’s main theatre and conference venue.
Parking & Transport
Parking can get very busy particularly in evenings and weekends. The nearest car park to the TSB Showplace is Central Car Park (between Devon Street and Powderham Street, opposite the venue). There is one mobility park in Central Car Park. There is also a drop off/collection park immediately outside the venue. If you need assistance in booking taxis please speak to a member of our team. The Theatre Royal is fully accessible for patrons in wheelchairs or those with limited mobility. There are 4 wheelchair seats and 4 carer seats in the Theatre Royal. There are wheelchair accessible ramps and bathrooms. Please ensure you speak to a member of the Box Office staff or Ticketmaster if you wish to book a wheelchair seat. If you have any further special requirements, please mention this to a member of staff when booking your tickets.
If you have a walking aid or crutches, please be aware that due to fire regulations these will be kept outside of the theatre during the performance and returned to you at the end. In the event of an evacuation, please remain in your seat until all other patrons have exited the theatre. There is one wheelchair in the venue which is available to borrow. If you wish to use this, please advise the team when booking your tickets so we can ensure it is available for your use.
Hearing and Guide Dogs are welcome in the venue. Please do let the team know when booking so we can offer appropriate seating.
At the Venue
Drinks are available to purchase pre-show and during the interval at our bars within the TSB Showplace. The bar opens one hour before the start of the performance. If you wish to take your drink into the theatre with you, please ask a member of the bar staff for a plastic glass. Hot beverages are permitted in a takeaway cup with lid. Food may also be available and varies according to different performances. There are kandy bars within the venue selling ice-creams, soft drinks and confectionary pre-show and during the interval. Please be aware that you cannot bring your own food or drinks into the venue.
This award winning restaurant, café and bar is located about 5 minutes’ walk from the TSB Showplace. They are open 7 days until late, offering an extensive Italian inspired menu including pizzas, pastas and risotto. Lighter meals and kids menu available as well as hot drinks and a full bar. Also open for breakfast and brunch.
The Garlic Press
Also about 5 minutes’ walk away at 81 Devon Street, is French restaurant The Garlic Press. Best for those with time to enjoy a full sit down meal at a leisurely pace. Also a good option for dessert after a show.
10 minutes’ walk away on 117 Devon Street is popular informal choice, Elixir. Open late every day accept Sunday and Monday, Elixir offers a range of café selections as well as all day breakfast and kids menus, hot drinks and alcohol.

Doors to the arena open 1 hour prior to performances and doors to the theatre usually open thirty minutes prior to the start of the performance.
A box office is located at the TSB Showplace in the ground floor foyer.
It’s open one-hour before shows and Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm, and Sat 10am – 1pm.
