MTG Century Theatre


The MTG Theatre is a modernist masterpiece designed by architect Guy Natusch. Built in 1977 as a concert chamber to commemorate Napier’s first Century as a city, MTG’s 330 seat theatre is now an intimate setting for performing arts, film and lectures.

Parking and Transport

MTG Century theatre is located just off state highway 2. There is ample on street parking in the area.

Public Transport
Located about 10 minutes’ walk from Napier’s train station.


There are two accessible entrances into the building;
Through the main entrance on 1 Tennyson Street and from the Theatre foyer from Marine Parade.
Please note that for evening performances in the Theatre please use the Marine Parade entrance for accessible access.
There is lift access to the upper and lower galleries from the main reception foyer.



Pacific Restaurant
Located within walking distance at 209 Marine Parade is this award winning restaurant offering a kiwi-inspired a la carte menu with great seafood options. Open for dinner from 6pm Monday-Saturday. Bookings recommended: (06) 833 6335

Milk and Honey
Located either a short drive away or approximately 30 minutes’ stroll around the water front is this popular choice, Milk and Honey. The a la carte menu offer a good range of Kiwi and Mediterranean fusion that changes regularly owing to its emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Small plates and good wine selection available. Also open for breakfast and lunch 7 days until 10pm (4pm on Sunday).
