Prelude Series

Do you want more out of your concert experience? Come along to our free CMNZ Prelude series.

Pre-Concert talks are an ideal introduction to the concert, providing a first look at the repertoire and artists background before the performance begins.

From industry professionals, to musicologists, these talks guide audiences through the music they are about to hear.

Sometimes the focus is on the historical context of a particular piece of music, or on its contemporary relevance, while others are on the technical challenges in the execution.

Featuring artists, composers and music scholars, Q&A are a great way to start the conversation around music. You can satisfy your curiosity, learn something new and enjoy the concert through fresh eyes.

Performances by successful groups from the NZCT Chamber Music Contest or talented adult ensembles are occasionally featured as a prelude to our concerts. Come and hear these rising stars share the stage with national and international music legends.

The idea behind this format is that of a “warm up act”, giving young musicians the opportunity to perform in front of the wider public, in some of the most iconic venues in New Zealand.

Show your support for these aspiring young artists at a Prelude event near you.

All prelude events are FREE and everybody is welcome to attend. Check our upcoming concerts to view whether the concert includes a prelude event.
