These are The Guest List-ers who work at Chamber Music New Zealand:

Candice

Candice de villiers

Job: Marketing & Communications Assistant
Fun stuff: I am attempting to learn the Ukulele at the moment though all I can play is Hush Little Baby and Michael Row the Boat. I also enjoy acting…although it has been a while!
Favourite Places (Wellington): Absolutely love brunch on the weekend – after a night out with friends (probably at Ancestral or Library or Dragonfly). Favourite brunch places are Fidels, Olive Café or Dukes. Oh and then there’s always coffee at Deluxe! Just too many to choose from!
The thing about chamber music: I am definitely a ‘newbie’ when it comes to chamber music, having only been properly introduced to it last year. I am fascinated by how varied such a niche artform can be and love learning about the behind the scenes elements of it all – the history of the pieces being performed, the artists’ backgrounds and where their love of music stems from. It’s such a personal and intimate style of performance, the musicians really have to lay it all out there for audiences, and when they do the affect is breath-taking.
Sergey Malov in concert: Having spent the last few months watching Sergey’s performance clips on YouTube and having his image stuck up all around the office I am keen to see the real deal live on stage. Oh and I can’t help but second Vic on his stylishness!

Anna

Anna Sedcole

Job: Artist Development Manager
Fun stuff: Before getting pregnant, I used to like playing Ultimate Frisbee. (At the moment, I rather resemble a Frisbee.) Otherwise, when I’m not at concerts, rehearsals or hanging out with friends, my husband and I sometimes watch TV series – we have been known to become a bit obsessed with shows like The Sopranos, The West Wing and Six Feet Under …
Favourite Places (Wellington): I love going out for brunch, and my favourite place is Floriditas. I also love the fresh fish sandwiches from the Chocolate Fish café in Miramar, particularly on a beautiful day. I’m looking forward to being able to drink beer at the new Sprig & Fern pub in Thorndon once I’m able to!
The thing about chamber music: To me, it’s the ultimate form of music because everyone has an equal part to play and teamwork is so important. I love hearing the big Romantic works as well as new and interesting works. But at the end of the day, I’m really only interested if a performer can communicate the music to me – I’m always looking for that moment where you lose yourself in the music and it makes you glad to be alive!
Sergey Malov in concert: I’m particularly looking forward to hearing him play the Brahms G major sonata, having played it myself many moons ago!

Jessica

Jessica Lightfoot

Job: Operations Co-ordinator & Concert Manager
Fun stuff: I like to exercise (running and yoga mostly) and I’m in a book club!
Favourite Places (Wellington): Anywhere there’s live music on of any type. I like having brunch at Aro Café or Indian, Japanese or Malaysian food anywhere in the city.
The thing about chamber music: It’s neat being part of such a small team creating music together (I’m a violinist myself) – your part feels completely integral since there’s only one of you playing it most of the time. Of course that means there’s a lot more pressure too! It’s great to watch musicians interacting on stage and knowing they’re enjoying the music as much as you are.
Sergey Malov in concert: I always look forward to meeting musicians after we spend so long writing to them and setting up their tour. Plus the Franck violin sonata is one of my all-time favourites so I’m really looking forward to hearing that!

Victoria

Victoria Dadd

Job: Audience Development Manager
Fun stuff: I like collecting bits of fantastic fabrics. I pretend that I know how to quilt and go to a group once a month, but really I’m such a beginner. I just like to get the pretty things and go ‘ooooo’. I also have a piano that I play sometimes and I’ve just bought a kindle, which I’m very excited about.
Favourite Places (Wellington): I enjoy a beer in Little Beer Quarter after work and weekend brunch at the Bach Café looking out to sea. My favourite place in Wellington is the Wind Turbine in Brooklyn – the view is amazing.
The thing about chamber music: The most important thing to me is the escape. I love forgetting life and getting swept along by the music for an hour or so. Another thing I love is how it showcases all the individual musicians. It’s like they all have a concerto part – the talent is inspiring! I’m always amazed and excited by fantastic musicians.
Sergey Malov in concert: I’m looking forward to his vampire-esque stage presence! His suits are always so sharp…
