Changes to Christchurch concert season

11 May 2011

As you may be aware, Chamber Music New Zealand's usual Christchurch venue, the James Hay Theatre in the Town Hall complex, sustained major damage after the 22 February earthquake and is unavailable for the rest of our 2011 season. So we went looking for a new venue … and in the process also arranged a bonus free concert by superstar UK violinist Tasmin Little.

The New Zealand String Quartet with Jenny Wollerman, Tasmin Little and the Brentano String Quartet will all perform at St Andrew's at Rangi Ruru Church in Merivale. Please note that the concert start time for all three concerts is 6.30pm. While seating will be zoned A and B Reserve, there is no allocated seating, i.e. seating is General Admission within each zone. Bring your CMNZ 2011 subscription Pass and show it at the door.

Public door sales for the New Zealand String Quartet with Jenny Wollerman are available from 5pm, and the venue can be entered from 5.45pm. Cash, credit card and cheque only (no EFTPOS). We also advise you to bring a cushion.

Thanks to the kindness of Tasmin Little, who will travel to Christchurch to give this previously unscheduled free recital, and together with our partnership with the 2011 Michael Hill International Violin Competition and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, you will be able to experience one of the most revolutionary projects in classical music – The Naked Violin.

While venue details for the remaining concerts are yet to be confirmed, the concert start time for each will be 6.30pm.
