Wellington Region

In the Wellington region, we enjoy plenty of opportunities to experience beautiful chamber music.

In addition to the CMNZ Kaleidoscopes Season, featuring extraordinary ensembles of the highest international quality, CMNZ works alongside four local presenters through our Encompass Series.

Each of these presenters has their own vibrant season of music making and is an opportunity to hear some incredible musicians playing at an intimate venue near you.

In LOWER HUTT each year you can hear a variety of international and New Zealand musicians share outstanding performances of music for small ensembles. These are put on at the Little Theatre by Chamber Music Hutt Valley, which like many chamber music societies in NZ, is run completely by volunteers.

Classical Expressions in UPPER HUTT offer 6 concerts in 2017, ranging from chamber music to orchestral works, solo piano concerts on their Steinway Concert Grand Piano, to intimate ensembles, all in a delightful theatre setting on Monday evenings.

WAIKANAE Music Society offers nine Sunday afternoon concerts this year at a convenient location adjacent to Waikanae train station. Each begins at 2.30pm and offer a huge variety of superb groups throughout the year. They also organise concerts that feature local young musicians.

WELLINGTON Chamber Music Trust presents seven concerts featuring some of New Zealand’s finest musicians. Held on Sunday afternoons, 3.00 pm at St Andrew’s on the Terrace, the programmes feature a wide range of mainstream classics alongside newer works by composers from New Zealand and elsewhere.
