Earlier in the year we teamed up with our friends at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music for a very special In the Loop competition. We offered two of our subscribers the chance to win an exclusive weekend package in Townsville. The lucky winners, Christine and John from Auckland, jumped at the opportunity of a musical winter escape in sunny Queensland.
We talked to Christine, to find out how the trip went:
"Upon arrival at the Hotel Grand Chancellor there, we were struck by the beautiful birdsong coming from the many trees in the main street. We booked in and were duly given the tickets for the concerts we were to attend. That evening we found the lovely Civic theatre for the first, most enjoyable performance.
Whilst in Townsville we enjoyed driving to the top of Castle Hill to get a marvellous view of the surrounding countryside.
Once the concerts were over we set off for Cairns again, where we spent 5 days. We travelled from there one day up into the Atherton tablelands to enjoy an environment we had not seen before. We also drove to see the Mossman Gorge which we thought was stunningly beautiful and it is easy to understand why the Aboriginal people felt it was a magical place.
Attending the AFCM was for me a musical highlight which I will never forget!"
Travel memories: Christine and John enjoying the Mossman Gorge.
