Breaking down barriers to classical music

Tuesday, 31 October 2017

In 2017, we once again teamed up with community musician Julian Raphael to bring our IHC Accessible Concert Mini Series to centres across Aotearoa. After five years of delivering relaxed performances and workshops across the country, our mission is still the same: to make classical music accessible and inclusive for everyone.

We've rounded up some of the best moments from this year's Accessible Concerts in Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Christchurch:

“It was wonderful to be able to come to a concert where everyone is the same. No one felt out of place and were all enjoying the music and experience together”

Fairhaven Specialist School teacher (Hawke's Bay Accessible Concert)

"What a marvellous experience you and your team have been able to create for the students, and staff, in the Accessible Concerts programme. A real buzz and real making and hearing music. A big thank you. Good luck for the ChCh part of the programme."

Gary Wilby, Music Teacher, HVHS (Wellington Accessible Concert)

“We so look forward to this week now. It is so good for everyone here.  I could see one of our newer residents who doesn’t interact much at all really starting to come out of his shell.”

Janine Lloyd, Hohepa Day Services Manager (Christchurch Accessible Concert)
