District Contest Awards

Best Group Overall

This award is presented to the group adjudicated the best group overall in each District Round. All groups entered in the Instrumental Performance Section are eligible for this award.

The winning group is automatically selected to perform at one of the three Regional Finals.
Each member of the group will receive a certificate at a later date acknowledging this achievement.


Highly Commended

The adjudicator can name up to four other groups as Highly Commended in each District Round. These groups receive certificates at a later date acknowledging the Highly Commended achievement.


NZ Music Awards

(in association with SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music and CANZ - Composers Association of New Zealand)

Award for the Best Performance of a New Zealand Work
This award is presented in all districts where one or more New Zealand works are performed. Each member of the group will receive a certificate and the winning group will receive a SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music cash prize of $100.

Original Composition Performance Award
Pieces entered in the Senior Composition Section that are also entered in the Instrumental Performance Section (ie. The composition will be played as part of the District Contest) will be eligible for this award. This award is presented in all districts where one or more Original Composition Senior Section work is performed.

Each member of the winning group will receive a certificate and the composer whose work is played will receive a SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music voucher to the value of $50.


KBB Music Awards

These awards are presented to groups at District Rounds who the adjudicators judge to be striving for excellence in their music making. Groups eligible for this award must contain wind and/or brass and/or percussion instrument(s). The awards are in the form of KBB Music vouchers which are awarded to the group.


Adjudicator’s Award

Awarded at the adjudicator’s discretion to a group other than the winning one, which is worthy of special mention. This group will receive certificates at a later date acknowledging this achievement.


Certificates

All participants will be presented with a certificate of participation on request.


Other Awards

Special prizes may be given out at some District Rounds by local sponsors to groups chosen by the adjudicators.

Regional Finals Awards

Bronze Award

All Regional Finalists receive a Bronze Award. Each Regional Finalist group member will be presented with a letter of commendation on the day of their Regional Final and will receive a Bronze Award certificate at a later date.

All Bronze Award groups whose repertoire meets the Rules and Conditions will be considered for selection to National Semi Finals.


Regional Final Winner

This is awarded to the group adjudicated the best group overall in each Regional Final. All members of the group must reside in that region to be eligible for this award.

Each member of the winning group will receive a letter of commendation on the day of their Regional Final and will receive a certificate at a later date.

National Semi-finals and Final Awards

June Clifford Silver Award

This award is presented to the National Semi Finalist groups who do not progress to the National Final.  Each member of the  groups will receive a certificate during the Award Ceremony following the National Final on Saturday 4 August 2018, and a cash prize of $500 per group will also be given.

The Silver Award is named in honour of Mrs June Clifford, CNZM, QSM for her dedicated involvement in Chamber Music New Zealand both at local and national level since 1956.  June is a Chamber Music New Zealand Life Member, recipient of the 2012 Marie Vandewart Memorial Award, current Hawke’s Bay Committee Chair, and former Chair of the CMNZ Board and District Contest Organiser. June has also tutored groups in the Contest to a National Finals level.

Joan Kerr Gold Award

This award is presented to the National Finalist groups who perform on Saturday 4 August 2018. Each member of the  groups will receive a certificate during the Award Ceremony following the National Final concert, and a cash prize of $800 per group will also be given. 

The Gold Award is named in honour of Miss Joan Kerr who was instrumental in both the success of Chamber Music New Zealand (when it was known as the Music Federation) and in the establishment and implementation of this Chamber Music Contest in its early years.

Wallace Foundation Platinum Award

This award is presented to each member of the overall winning group of the National Final during the Award Ceremony on Sunday 6 August 2017.  Each member of the group will receive a certificate and the Wallace Foundation cash prize or $6,000 per group to be distributed evenly amongst the winning group 
 

NZ Music Awards

(in association with SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music and CANZ - Composers Association of New Zealand)

National Award for the Best Performance of a New Zealand Work
As part of their award this group is given the opportunity to perform at the National Final in Wellington on Saturday 4 August 2018 as a demonstration group, or as a finalist group if they have been selected as National Finalists.

The group is then presented the award during the Award Ceremony following the National Final. Each member of the group will receive a certificate and the winning group will receive a SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music cash prize of $500.

Composer Award
Awarded to the winners of the Original Composition Section of the Contest.

Senior Section: The winner will receive a SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music prize of $500 cash and one year’s subscription to CANZ (Composer’s Association of New Zealand).

Junior Section: The winner will receive a SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music prize of $100 cash, a SOUNZ voucher to the value of $50 and one year's subscription to CANZ (Composer's Association of New Zealand).


 

KBB Music Awards

These awards are presented to groups at the National Final. Groups eligible for these awards must contain wind and/or brass and/or percussion instrument(s). The awards are in the form of KBB Music vouchers which are awarded to each member of the group.
 

People's Choice Award

This award is presented to to a Finalist group chosen by an audience text vote at the completion of the Finals. Each member of the group will receive a certificate during the Award Ceremony following the National Final on Saturday 4 August 2018. 
 

Jack Richards Travel Awards

Offered for the first time in 2017, these awards assist all National Semi-Finalists who are required to travel to compete in the National Finals weekend.
 

Concert Tickets

All participants at the National Semi Finals and National Final will receive FlexiVouchers  to Chamber Music New Zealand’s 2019 Concert Season in the centre of their choice.
