ARTISTS: Diedre Irons (piano), Deborah Rawson (saxophone) Rebecca Steel (flute)
Vibrancy, freshness, friends, and fun. Join much-loved pianist Diedre Irons and her new trio, Galvanised, on a world tour of one of the most colourful – and unusual – combinations in all chamber music.
“Debbie and Rebecca and I have been wanting to play together for years. It’s a fairly unlikely-sounding combination but it really works – the highness of the flute together with the richness of the sax and clear, lyrical piano produces something quite unique and really special. I’m immensely enjoying this music. We are having a lot of fun with it and that really is the essence of it, isn’t it? To have fun!” – Diedre Irons
These are three old friends who leapt at the opportunity to play together when Rebecca Steel returned from Australia.
Debbie Rawson is Head of Woodwind at the New Zealand School of Music and leader of the saxophone group Saxcess: Rebecca Steel is former flute with the Philharmonia in London; and Diedre Irons was most recently Head of Classical Performance at the NZ School of Music, before ‘retiring’ in 2011 to enjoy an increasingly busy international concert career.
Here they perform one special concert in Whanganui, in advance of their Kaleidoscopes tour launching the season.
In association with the Foundation Music School, Wanganui Collegiate.
Galvanised continue their tour through the country with our Kaleidoscopes main season.
