ARTISTS:
Julia Joyce (viola), Kristin Darragh (mezzo soprano), Kirsten Simpson (piano)
Enjoy the rich, creamy timbres and luscious sonorities of the ‘alto’ range. Julia, Kirsten and Kristin have put together a fascinating programme of music that is unique to this evocative collaboration - viola, mezzo and piano.
Julia Joyce (née McCarthy) is well known to NZ audiences. In 2008, she graduated from Guildhall in London with a Masters degree with distinction. She held a position in the Philharmonia orchestra of London before returning to New Zealand last year to take up the position of Principal Viola of the NZSO.
Kristin Darragh is one of New Zealand’s most exciting upcoming operatic talents. She has performed regularly with NBR New Zealand Opera, most recently as Olga in Eugene Onegin. She graduated from the Royal Academy’s Opera Course and was selected as the Dame Malvina Major Young Artist for 2009.
Kirsten Simpson studied with Diedre Irons at the University of Canterbury and then went on to the Royal College of Music where she graduated with diplomas in both solo and collaborative piano. Kirsten has worked with a wide range of artists, particularly singers, and toured with Dame Malvina Major in 2009 and 2010.
