Our foremost Beethoven pianist, Michael Houstoun, presents what Alfred Brendel terms “the greatest of all piano works” – Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. Inspired by a waltz composed by his friend, Anton Diabelli, the variations were composed over four years in Beethoven’s last decade and represent the last and most adventurous work that he wrote for piano – breathtaking in virtuosity and unprecedented in musical and emotional scope. Come and help Michael Houstoun celebrate his 60th birthday with this giant of the piano repertoire.
