Piano Trio in D minor Op 49
The fire and passion of Spanish composer Joaquín Turina's second piano trio (written in 1933) is paired with English composer Rebecca Clarke's trio (1921), a powerful and expansive work which has shades of Franck and Debussy. In the second half of the programme, Mendelssohn's virtuosic trio in D minor balances frenetic energy with tranquility in the style of his "Songs without words".
