“a performance of kaleidoscopic nature”~ Alastair Elliott ~ read full review
Niels Bijl saxophone
Diedre Irons piano
Niels performs as a chamber musician in many ensembles, and since 2000 he has been a member of the renowned Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. He regularly performs in projects with professional orchestras in The Netherlands, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
Recently he was invited to play in Sir Georg Solti’s/Valery Gergiev’s World Orchestra for Peace and has since become the orchestra’s official saxophonist.
His CD ‘Chant du saxophone tenor’ was released in 2008. Branford Marsalis enthused: “It's so rare that I hear musicians who can play a melody, that it's really a treat when I do. I can't wait to tell my friends about it. It's romantic, and magical.”
Diedre Irons needs no introduction to New Zealand audiences. Diedre is one of our most revered pianists, and it is a rare treat to have her perform again on our regional concerts circuit.
